2016 in Review

Running late, but here is a brief review of 2016’s major events in the Kirk:

  1. Plagiarism
Rachel Miller’s discovery of wholesale plagiarism in the Omnibus textbook series (Douglas Wilson general editor) was the single-most important event for the Kirk in 2015. The rule of thumb is “three’s a pattern.” Here, Rachel uncovered hundreds of examples of filched text in all six volumes of this six-volume set — more than she had time to lay out. Any single instance would have been sufficient to end a legitimate academic’s career. Doug Wilson disqualified John Wesley from the ministry for plagiarizing less. New Saint Andrews College (NSA) has expelled students for smaller offenses. But the Kirk as well as the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) greeted this theft with a yawn.

When Rachel Miller exposed the plagiarized text in A Justice Primer, all blame landed on Randy Booth because he edited the book. Douglas Wilson was the general editor for all six volumes of the Omnibus — yet he skated. Six volumes over 6 years (2005–2011) of textbook plagiarism. Few things demonstrate Doug Wilson’s corruption better than the Omnibus.1

  2. The Shubin Report
Rachel Shubin did a fantastic job compiling & organizing all the primary documents for the Sitler & Wight sex-abuse cases into one large pdf. Then she went to work. Read this for a complete introduction or download the doc here.
  3. The CREC Review Committee
During the October 27, 2015, Christ Church HOH Meeting, Doug Wilson announced that the Review Committee should finish their work by the end of 2015: “Randy Booth is the chairman of that committee. That review is going on as we speak and we hope to have a report, a report — recommendations — back from them by the end of the year.” (Shubin Report, page 216) Apparently the committee fell behind schedule.
  4. Moscow-Pullman Daily News
The Kirk, or Kirk ministries, received ten front-page stories, which the News cut down the middle. Five stories put Logos School in a favorable light;2 five stories reported the influence of Doug Wilson on Palouse culture. Additionally, he received an honorable mention in another front-page story (Palouse area mostly accepting, but not immune to hate, June 17, 2016), as well as what amounted to an op-ed with this article: Pastor rebuts statements by victim of child abuse (April 19, 2016).

Here’s an inventory of this year’s significant3 Daily News contributions:

Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho, coined the axiom, “Theology comes out your fingertips — and whatever comes out your fingertips is your theology.” If so, then we learned quite a bit about Doug Wilson’s theology in 2016. He defiles everything he touches, if he doesn’t steal it. To be sure, maybe it’s time to put him in handcuffs. Keep his fingers from plagiarizing anymore and make him serve the life terms that Steven Sitler & Jamin Wight earned. In the least, this would guarantee that next year’s review would contain fewer headlines. And fewer molested children.

1 Doug Wilson’s gross mishandling of Jamin Wight & Steven Sitler goes past mere corruption. These epitomize his wickedness.
2 · Logos purchases 30 acres for new school (March 4, 2016)
· City approves Logos property annexation (May 17, 2016)
· Logos’ proposed roof raises questions from Moscow board (June 29, 2016)
· A step upward for proposed Logos School campus (August 3, 2016)
· ‘Geronimo, amen’ prayer created Logos (September 26, 2016)
3 In 2016 the Daily News reported a purge on the board of directors for the Moscow Food Co-op, which we did not post because the details were too complicated. Suffice to say that Doug Wilson used a kirker to exact retribution against a director who had been openly critical of Mr. Wilson. The Co-op’s directors do not comprehend the threat they face.
