MoscowID.net downloaded this video from Daniel Foucachon’s YouTube channel,1 however the credits attribute the vid to CanonWired & Canon Press. It’s a Q&A with Pastor Doug Wilson of Christ Church, Moscow, where Mr. Wilson answers the question “How should a church handle repentant sex offenders?” Mr. Foucachon uploaded it on January 9, 2010 — five months before the Kirk sent convicted sex-abuser Jamin Wight to Haiti on a missionary journey, and the timeline furnished by the quotation below suggests that Doug Wilson performed for this vid as the Kirk made plans to send Mr. Wight:
Just wanted to let you know that after a several months of investigating, we are finally using the funds that we raised for relief efforts in Haiti. Jamin Wight is leaving tomorrow (Friday, 5/14) to go down to Haiti for a week. The special offerings that we took up during January and February amounted to around $3000. . . . (Jamin Wight: Kirk Missionary )
Sending Mr. Wight to Haiti contradicted Mr. Wilson’s assurance to the community that “he [Jamin Wight] has still disqualified himself from ministry.”
Perhaps more interesting, Mr. Wilson acted in this video about 18 months before he presided over the marriage of serial pedophile Steven Sitler to a graduate of New St. Andrews College, knowing that the young couple planned to have children (plural). This is noteworthy because of the money quote, which begins at the 2:00-minute mark where Douglas Wilson states,
“I’m not authorized to offer the safety of the little kids in the church to someone who is not being supervised carefully enough. . . . So I can’t — I can give — we can give in the church — and must give — but only to the extent that we’re not stealing from somebody else, in order to subsidize it.”
If we take these words at face value, then Pastor Doug Wilson of Christ Church, Moscow, exceeded his authority when he sanctioned the marriage of Steven Sitler, because in doing so Mr. Wilson extended the grace of God to Sitler in exchange for the safety of Sitler’s children. Or to use his terminology, Doug Wilson “stole” safety from Sitler’s future progeny to “subsidize” God’s grace to the child molester.
This video is equally remarkable for what Doug Wilson doesn’t say. It would be refreshing if he told the truth — something like, “Christ Church enables our sex offenders — our rapists, sexual predators, and serial child molesters. I have blamed victims and their parents in the past, and I generally advocate for lenient sentences. In the case of our fixated pedophile, I was glad to officiate the marriage ceremony and pray for the couple to have children. And I would do it again. . . .” Such honesty would kill marketing but it would be true.
One final point: The home page for the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches’ website features another video performance by Douglas Wilson. CanonWired produced the vid, like the one above. It’s titled “Welcome to the CREC from Canon Wired” and it’s more evidence that demonstrates Mr. Wilson created and uses the CREC to give denominational cover for his illegal & unethical activities. The CREC is actively complicit in Doug Wilson’s sin.
