Theater of the Absurd

A Corruption of Justice Primer

Natalie Rose Greenfield answers four more questions posed to her by Randy Booth & Rich Lusk of the CREC Review Committee, and she knocks them out of the park. +2 Natalie.

I set the questions in bold:

“What do you think should have happened to Jamin?”
Two weeks ago Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church, Moscow, answered this question when he wrote,

“If somebody kidnapped and raped the most outrageous organizer of the worst slut pride event ever, I would want to see that rapist punished to the fullest extent of the law.” (“A Theology of Slut Walks”)

If I understand the document on the right correctly, then the state originally charged Mr. Wight with three counts of Lewd Conduct With A Child Under 16, and three counts of Sexual Abuse Of A Child Under 16. According to Idaho code, the maximum punishment for Lewd Conduct With A Child Under 16 is “a term of not more than life.” And the maximum punishment for Sexual Abuse Of A Child Under 16 is “a period not to exceed twenty-five (25) years.” Therefore, if we apply Mr. Wilson’s written standard of “the fullest extent of the law” to this criminal case, then the state should have sent Jamin Wight to prison for three life terms plus seventy-five years.

Or we could apply another one of Mr. Wilson’s written standards to the convict, in which case the state should have hung Jamin Wight from a tree by the neck until dead:

“I believe that violent rape by a sexual predator should be answered by a tall tree and a short rope.” (“A Tall Tree and a Short Rope”)1

“In an ideal world, how would the church, the state, and your family have dealt with him?”
This question is disingenuous because “in an ideal world” Jamin Wight would have never raped Natalie.

“Do you think Jamin should have been labeled as a pedophile?
They asked this question in bad faith because Natalie is not qualified to answer it:

“Pedophilia is a clinical diagnosis usually made by a psychiatrist or psychologist. It is not a criminal or legal term, such as forcible sexual offense, which is a legal term often used in criminal statistics.” (“What Is Pedophilia?”)

Natalie is the victim of violent sexual abuse. She is not a psychiatrist or psychologist. More importantly, since neither Randy Booth nor Rich Lusk are psychiatrists or psychologists, they should not ask questions beyond the scope of their expertise. As before, however, Mr. Wilson answers this question on his blog:

“The medical definition of a pedophile is (1) someone who is aroused by, has intense, recurring fantasies, or is involved in sexual behaviors with prepubescent children (13 or younger), (2) someone who is aroused by, has sexual fantasies, or is involved with a child for at least 6 months, (3) someone who is at least 16 years old, and (4) at least 5 years older than the child(ren) he or she is attracted to.” (“Sex Offenders in the Church”)

This definition is correct. Therefore, in order to answer it we must know the stage of Natalie’s physical development at the time when Mr. Wight began abusing her, which strikes me as an indecent intrusion on the part of these men. She was 13-years old and the man who raped her was 23-years old. And contrary to the premise of this question (which appears grounded in Mr. Wilson’s deceitful rhetoric), the state never contemplated charging Jamin Wight with being a pedophile. Pedophilia is not a crime. Raping children is a crime. Therefore, Randy Booth & Rich Lusk should stay on point.

“What label should be put on him?”
This question is disingenuous and irrelevant but I’ll answer it anyway. What label should be put on Jamin Wight? I think the label “CREC PASTOR” fits him just fine. The CREC trained him. The CREC defended him. The CREC protects those who protected him. The CREC should own him.

1 Arguably, Mr. Wilson calls for vigilante justice in this post, because Idaho has not hung a prisoner to death since 1957, and in 1978 it adopted lethal injection as its sole method of execution. Moreover, hanging people on trees is the mark of lynch mobs.
