Deceitful Theology Excursus: “deceiving and being deceived”

“But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13

According to Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church, in Moscow, Idaho, “lying to the enemies of God who have forfeited their right to the truth” is “lawful deception.” He doesn’t say how to identify these “enemies of God” and he doesn’t say what they did to “forfeit their right to the truth,” but he teaches this doctrine as gospel. Moreover, we have seen that he lies frequently. Here I want to demonstrate how this teaching has corrupted Mr. Wilson’s followers.

I call your attention to an exchange that occurred during the 2002 Idaho Board of Tax Appeals hearing. between the Christ Church attorney (Greg Dickison) and the Christ Church Treasurer (Eric Burnett). You can hear it at 1:01:54 of the audio recording or you can listen to the excerpt here:

Kirk Attorney: “This is Greg Dickison. Eric, the distinction, to the extent any is made of Canon Press within Christ Church, is essentially a bookkeeping distinction; is that right?”

Kirk Treasurer: “Correct.”

Kirk Attorney: “But organizationally it is part of Christ Church?”

Kirk Treasurer: “That’s correct.”

Kirk Attorney: “Oh and the — we have been talking the profit or making money — none of that profit inures to anybody’s private or individual benefit?”

Kirk Treasurer: “That’s correct.”

Kirk Attorney: “And I asked that because that’s the legal definition of ‘for profit’ is whether it inures to the private benefit of any shareholder or entity, and it doesn’t. So legally it would be ‘nonprofit.’”

Notice the three-step deception:

  1. First they established that, as an entity, Canon Press belonged to the Kirk, which they had established was a 501(c)(3) organization:

Kirk Attorney: “But organizationally it is part of Christ Church?”

    Kirk Treasurer: “That’s correct.”

  1. Second, they testified that none of Canon Press’ profit inured to anyone’s private benefit:

Kirk Attorney: “Oh and the — we have been talking the profit or making money — none of that profit inures to anybody’s private or individual benefit?”

    Kirk Treasurer: “That’s correct.”

  1. Third, the Kirk attorney (Greg Dickison) closed the deal by citing the IRS’s definition of “nonprofit”:

Kirk Attorney: “And I asked that because that’s the legal definition of ‘for profit’ is whether it inures to the private benefit of any shareholder or entity, and it doesn’t. So legally it would be ‘nonprofit.’”

These men scripted this deception to protect Douglas Wilson’s tax-free income — and Douglas Wilson valiantly let them.

Never go to court against Douglas Wilson. He will amass an army of liars who will protect his interests regardless of cost to themselves. They will calculate their deceit in advance and swear an oath to its truth, as demonstrated by these two false witnesses. Douglas Wilson and his beloved Kirk are hopelessly corrupt.
