On Voting Blocs & Landslides

“If you must break the law, do it to seize power.” Gaius Julius Cæsar

Quick follow-up to last night’s post: New St. Andrews College has asked the City of Moscow for permission to enlarge their student body to “500 FTE students.” FTE stands for “full-time equivalent,” which does not necessarily mean 300 more students. It could mean 600 more part-time students, or it could and likely does mean 600 more full-time students whom NSA will represent as part time. Either way, this signifies a much larger increase in the size of the Kirk’s voting bloc. So my figure of 1,000 is probably an underestimate.

Regarding that number of 1,000: Below I charted the voter turnout for the past elections in Moscow, back to 2003. Unfortunately, Latah County has not posted exact tallies for the years 2011, 2013, and 2015. But the numbers for the previous years tell a clear story — especially the year 2007 when Doug Wilson thumbed the scale. A voting bloc of 1,000 or more would trigger landslides. And in a perverse irony, those students who will live in the Christ Church network of illegal boarding houses, will enjoy super over-representation by their city councilpersons, contra lawful taxpayers without whom the government would collapse.
