Idaho Representative Paulette Jordan defeats Carl Berglund

Doug Wilson’s endorsement does nothing

Idaho State Representative Paulette Jordan (D) held her seat (House Seat 5A) in the Idaho House of Representatives yesterday. Ms. Jordan easily beat Carl Berglund (R), which means that Doug Wilson’s 400 votes can swing City Council but can’t touch a house seat. Moscow stays blue.

After Carl Berglund won the GOP primary last May, he attributed his victory to Mr. Wilson. The Moscow-Pullman Daily News noted this in their editorial Wilson proves his clout by getting win for Berglund, closing it with the line, “It’s clear there’s a new political force in Latah County.”

But Doug Wilson’s force went limp last night.

Congratulations to Representative Jordan.

  1. Congratulations, Paulette, you’ve done a great job. And to “Pastor” Wilson, Moscow’s would be Boss Tweed, your endorsement didn’t do squat, did it?

  2. It would be interesting to know if Berglund would have had a better chance if he had not attributed his primary victory to DW. Perhaps he lost more through that public reverse endorsement than he would have if he had kept his mouth shut.

Related – Since I do not live in Moscow, did DW ‘encourage’ his flock to support Trump? If so, then has he claimed victory in the Presidential election like David Barton, Robert Jeffress and others of their ilk have?

    1. From my brief forays to the good “Pastor’s” blog, it seems he certainly did not care for Trump during the campaign, although obviously his contempt for HRC (or ANY Democrat, because in Wilson World, all Democrats, active politicians or just every day folk, are inherently evil) was greater. The truly ironic twist is that, in his harangues against Trump, much of his distaste stemmed from Trump’s narcissism. Irony, thy name is Douglas J. Wilson.

    2. Again, not knowing any of the parties involved on a personal level, I for one am glad that the victor in Idaho House District 5A was a Democrat. And a woman. And a Native American. It makes me smile just thinking about how that must burn DW’s cookies.

    3. @Burwell — Berglund never had a prayer because Moscow is a college town and therefore flaming left. Just right of Mao (maybe). In 1985 Wilson ran for City Council — he came in dead last. In the early ’90s Wilson had his attorney run for state office (don’t remember which office); he lost. In the late ’90s, a local politician named Linda Pall was voted the most progressive politician in the state. She wore this as a compliment (Linda is a wonderful woman who has made a tremendous contribution to the community despite her politics!). Another local politician (city councilman) used to wear a Che Guevara button on his shirt. In ’06 a city councilman resigned office to work full time for Hillary’s presidential campaign (that job didn’t last long). I think I read that Latah County was the only county in the state that voted for Obama in ’08 & ’12. I’m sure the same is true of Hillary this year. Moscow takes leftism seriously. It’s pretty much the only blue spot in Idaho.

Regarding Trump, Wilson endorsed Trump to the extent that he said Trump would be easier to fight than Hillary. He measures all lawful authority in terms of his ability to resist, subvert, or elude it.
