“Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him.” Ezekiel 38:2
Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church, Moscow, uses his blog as the chief medium of communicating with his followers. He named it “Blog & Mablog” to rhyme with “Gog & Magog” (Rev. 20:8). Magog dates to Genesis 10, however, we do not see Gog until Ezekiel 38—39, where Scripture identifies Prince Gog of the land of Magog as an enemy of God: “Therefore, you son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus said the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, O Gog” (Ezek. 39:1).
Revelation 20 describes “Gog & Magog” as nations whom Satan deceived into making war against God’s saints, surrounding them to destroy them:
Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (Rev. 20:6–10)
Doug Wilson named his blog appropriately because this describes him and his agenda: an enemy of God who makes war against the saints — unless you can think of another reason why he chose this name.
Doug’s basically just thumbing his nose at everyone. I think he counts on his parishioners being stupid enough to either 1) not see it, or 2) believe that Doug is telling them some kind of truth with a sly grin and a wink while lying at everyone else.
For some reason I always assumed it was him was goofing on dispensational eschatology. I might have confused “Gog and Magog” with something else in doing so.
In any case, the way you lay it out makes sense (as in Doug being Doug, etc.).
