Now it’s your fault

It galls him to see kirkers leave and now it’s your fault. He writes:

We have probably all heard the complaint from Christians who said they weren’t “being fed” any more. We may have gone through that ourselves. But there are two basic ways this might happen. One might occur when a gospel-preaching church slides into unfaithfulness. Where Christ was once proclaimed, the pulpit is now filled with moralism and self-helpery. The saints are not being fed because of dereliction on the part of the cooks. The saints are not being fed because someone responsible to serve food stopped serving food.

But there is also another cause, just as common, and far less recognized. This is not caused by dereliction by the cooks, but rather because the Christian in question went on a hunger strike. For whatever reason, some grievance has affected his appetite, and he has become mighty particular about his food. There is an abundance of food — and a bad attitude on the part of someone who will not pick up a fork.

You do not have a bad attitude and the marriage of Steven Sitler is not a mere “grievance.” It’s an egregious act of pastoral malpractice. So Rod Dreher:

You have to make a Grand Canyon-sized leap of logic to find Biblical sanction in this passage for the idea that marriage will help a pedophile resist his urges to have sex with children. I cannot believe that in the year 2015, an intelligent man believes that marriage is therapy for pedophilia. If this isn’t pastoral malpractice, what is?

You are not being “mighty particular.” He’s poisoning you. If you plan to stay, you must accept Steven Sitler as normal. You must accept his marriage as legal. You must accept these restrictions as just another trial for their family. These are his terms; you don’t have a choice.

Or you can leave.

  1. Thank you for pointing out the third way, the one Wilson leaves out: poison.

The people in Jonestown were being fed at the end. But it wasn’t the bread of life, it was cyanide. And before the literal poison came, there was the spiritual kind. Doug Wilson stopped preaching the gospel of Jesus plus nothing a long time ago. Now it’s faith plus works, which is a different gospel and no gospel at all. The apostle Paul asked the Galatians what had happened to their joy. If you’re a Kirker, you might want to ask yourself the same question.

  2. [From later in the DW blog post] “Their problem was entirely internal, and they projected that problem onto Paul as though it was his problem.”

Your problem, Doug, is entirely internal and you are projecting that problem onto others as though it were their problem. You are the arsonist fireman. You are the murderous policeman. You are the poisoner cook.

  3. Doug Wilson is thoroughly evil and completely mental.

The people in Wilson’s audience who think he is some kind of legitimate theologian are idiots, crackpots, and sadists.
