Canon Press is not a ministry. It is a privately owned company and, judging by the life & doctrine of its chief author, it has very low standards. Canon Press has determined that Randy Booth committed multiple counts of plagiarism and has publicly rebuked him for “negligence,” “editorial incompetence,” and “gross breach of contract.” Further, Canon Press acted on this determination by immediately terminating Randy Booth’s contract and removing A Justice Primer from their inventory. He is no longer in their stable of writers and the book is no longer for sale.
Here are the questions: If Randy Booth deserved a public rebuke and instant termination from a secular company for his sins, then what does he deserve from the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches? More importantly, should the CREC allow him to remain as Presiding Minister pro tempore and continue in his seat as chair of the Review Committee? Does the CREC really want a negligent incompetent who has committed gross breach of contract involved with this process?
The same questions apply to New Saint Andrews College. Randy Booth enjoys the title “Permanent Member” of the NSA Board of Directors. But if Canon Press, which is essentially the publishing wing of NSA, unseated Booth, then shouldn’t NSA follow suit? Or does his permanence confer lifetime immunity on him from the consequences of his sin?
