Wilson proves his clout by getting win for Berglund

Moscow-Pullman Daily News: “Wilson proves his clout by getting win for Berglund”The news out of the Idaho primary — at least as it has been written out of Spokane and Boise — has been about the super-conservative officeholders defeated by new more moderate conservatives. Likewise, there were several super-conservative challengers who failed to knock off moderate GOP incumbents.

Then, there’s the 5th Legislative District — that’s us — where very conservative Carl Berglund defeated moderate Bill Goesling. Both were vying to challenge Paulette Jordan, a liberal Democrat first elected two years ago.

Berglund won despite Goesling’s name familiarity from service on the Moscow School Board and currently the State Board of Education, among others. Goesling, 75, may have been relying a little too much on that name familiarity.

It didn’t help at all in conservative Benewah County, where he was soundly defeated.

It didn’t help — at least not enough — in liberal Moscow where Berglund also soundly defeated him.

At first, Berglund credited his win to his message.

Under further questioning about whether support from Christ Church and its outspoken pastor, Doug Wilson, helped at all, he said, “I’m absolutely convinced it did. It sounds like a lot of people from church got out and voted.”

The Sunday before the election Wilson had this to say — not from the pulpit but on his private blog — “I would like to encourage everyone who lives in this district (who can vote in the Republican primary) to make a point of voting for my friend Carl Berglund. This kind of vote at the local level will become increasingly important as we consider the ever-lengthening clown car parade at the national levels.”

Wilson and Berglund have also recorded several political “interviews” on Facebook, where some of Wilson’s questions are longer than Berglund’s answers.

It’s also interesting where Berglund’s message drew financial support. For the primary, he reported, $1,230 came from outside the 5th District, $1,105.22 from within. His biggest donor at $500 was in Sealy, Texas. Goesling got all his donations from Latah County and spent $1,000 more on his campaign than Berglund did.

It’s clear there’s a new political force in Latah County.

  1. And, it is equally clear that people of conscience need to put the skids on a future political career for a jackass like Carl Berglund. Sadly, Moscow is chock full of lazy, latte sipping, liberals who refuse to recognize the damage that a Kirkish sponsored candidate can do to the community. Tolerance toward all is, arguably, their mantra. Frankly, they won’t recognize that pretty snake is a viper until he bites them.

Meanwhile, the tickled candidate is too ignorant to recognize that the aspiring Geppetto of local politics is pulling all his strings. Please note: I suspect that Carl Berglund has no idea he is being played like a fiddle or dancing around the stage like Howdy Doody. Think about it; what thoughtful and informed person would be grateful for political support from a racist, sexist, plagiarizing, pseudo-evangelical faux minister?

While it is true that North Idaho has become a sought after destination for Redoubt morons and their fellow travelers they certainly don’t constitute a majority of the population. I am confident that Mr. Berglund will not win the election in November – instead he will follow the well trod path of silly old Gresham Bouma, who received a from the pulpit endorsement from DW, and nevertheless, lost.

    1. Seen similar things happening around the Church of Scientology. Some poor sod who has no idea of what the Church is accepts an endorsement, then when Scientology backing becomes public knowledge the candidate becomes roadkill.

  2. “This kind of vote at the local level will become increasingly important as we consider the ever-lengthening clown car parade at the national levels.” Thanks, Bozo the Wilson. Nice to know you are doing your part to keep things non-clown at the local level.

  3. For years, people who Doug Wilson derisively refers to as “intoleristas” have tried to get Moscow to wake up and realize the ambitions of this faux “Pastor”, which are nothing less than being our town’s 21st century Boss Tweed. But nope, the response has been “Oh, he’s got some odd ideas, but he’s harmless”. Will you start listening now, Moscow? Unfortunately, I doubt it.

  4. Not necessarily germane to this thread, but I just made one of my periodic visits to “Pastor” Wilson’s blog , just to see what he’s yammering about now. I see the latest entry is titled “Sixteen Sausages In a Row”. I didn’t read any further, because I can only assume he was telling his followers what he had for lunch yesterday.
