Veritas Press and the Fraudulent Omnibus Textbooks

I pulled the following screenshots of a Facebook exchange off Twitter. It appears that Veritas Press intends to stonewall and that they do not plan to refund their customers’ money (make restitution) after bilking them with these sham textbooks.

If you’re just joining us, Rachel Miller uncovered countless incidents of plagiarized text in the six-volume Omnibus textbook series published by Veritas Press.

  1. Oh man, if we’re going to jump right down the rabbit hole of “Those facebook/twitter posts were written by someone else” then this is going to get awesome really fast.

  2. Has anyone considered buying a billboard in Moscow and posting some of Doug’s controversies or comments on it? I don’t know how much trouble you could get in for libel, but it’s all public record anyway. Plus, right now would be as good of time as any since he’s on vacation.

    1. Yes. Just a really good (terrible) Doug Wilson quote on a great big billboard.

  3. A professional third party (Rachel Miller) has already reviewed these texts and found abundant plagiarized passages. I suspect what they mean by a “third party” is that an assessment will be made to determine potential legal culpability and then develop their CYA strategy based on those recommendations.

  4. The SD thing is I know of kids who had to read this trash. Thankfully, I steered clear away from it while homeschooling my own.

  5. I did a bit of research. The Omnibus volumes are a big part of what Veritas offers. Take a look at the pricing on this page and how little else Veritas has to offer to Grade 12 students.

That is why Veritas has gone into Damage Control mode. If they pull the Omnibus volumes, it will leave a huge hole in their curriculum.

They are putting money ahead of the good of the students.
